Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP)
Platelet rich plasma (PRP) is a concentrated form of platelets extracted from a patient's own blood. The process involves drawing a small amount of blood from the patient and spinning it in a centrifuge machine to separate the platelet-rich plasma from other components. The resulting solution contains a high concentration of platelets, growth factors, and cytokines that are responsible for healing and tissue regeneration.
PRP has been used in various medical fields, including orthopedics, dentistry, and dermatology. It is commonly used to treat musculoskeletal injuries such as osteoarthritis, tendonitis, and ligament injuries. PRP injections have also been found to be effective in promoting wound healing and reducing scarring.
Platelet Rich Fibrin (PRF)
Platelet rich fibrin (PRF) is a newer form of blood concentrate that has gained popularity in recent years. Unlike PRP, which uses anticoagulants to prevent the blood from clotting, PRF does not require any additives and relies on the natural process of blood clotting to create a fibrin matrix.
The preparation of PRF involves drawing blood in a specific type of tube and spinning it at a lower speed compared to PRP. This slower spinning process results in a thicker layer of fibrin, which contains a higher concentration of platelets and growth factors. PRF has been found to have a longer lifespan compared to PRP, which allows for a sustained release of growth factors over a longer period of time.

Treatment FAQs
While both are derived from the blood and rich in platelets, PRP is liquid plasma containing a high concentration of platelets, whereas PRF is a gel-like substance made from the fibrin clot containing platelets, white blood cells, and stem cells. PRF releases growth factors over a more extended period, offering prolonged benefits. A new version of PRF is Liquid PRF with is collected in special tubes that allows he product to be injected under the skin.
